After the success of their casual pho eatery Nam Nam, the Les Amis Group will open a second Vietnamese dining concept—this time with broken rice as the star. This South Vietnamese staple may be little known to us, but the cous cous-like texture of the rice promises to pack a punch. The pick-and-choose menu includes toppings like lemongrass pork slices and crispy soft shell crab. Expect rice soups, rice bowls and plenty of small plates to share starting at $9.80. Located next door to the Raffles City outlet of Nam Nam, COMNAM Broken Rice is slated to open mid-August.
Broken rice aside, we couldn’t resist adding a little bit of pho news too. Tanjong Pagar’s modern Vietnamese Pho Stop has moved down the road from its previous location to continue its run as a punchy, casual restaurant. Aside from the usual chicken and beef pho (brisket, meatballs and sliced beef included, starting at $7.60), there are lighter dishes like summer spring rolls ($5), fish cakes ($5.60), as well as heartier rice dishes. Expect the back patio to get full during the weekends with their beer bucket promos and Asian brews like Tsingtao, Lao Beer, Saigon Export and Bintang going for $8 a bottle.
