New local microbrewery The 1925 won’t serve beer just yet

New local microbrewery The 1925 Microbrewery & Restaurant located on Jalan Besar won’t actually be serving their golden concoctions—not yet anyway. Due to nitty-gritty customs approval procedures, their soft launch this Thursday won’t feature any of their craft beers, but will feature local brews from Brewerkz. “It gives us a chance to highlight our bespoke cocktail bar anyway,” says co-owner Ivan Yeo.

Don’t expect their own brews for the next six months either. Instead, they will be introducing locally-brewed Czech light and dark ales similar to that found at Hospoda Brewery, with a focus on establishing the cocktail bar with 1920s inspired drinks like the Gelico Flapper, a Frangelico sour made with orange bitters, hazelnut Frangelico liqueur, egg white, fresh lemon topped with vanilla bean ice cream and crushed almonds.

On the food menu, most dishes range from $8-20 on average, while premium options, like seafood platters, hit the $40 mark. Everything, from potato and chicken skins ($12), crispy pan foie gras & scallop ($28) to grilled fish with pesto ($18) and chargrilled beef burger with chicken pate ($24), is inspired by Yeo’s travels and cooked in-house. There are even off-beat options like oyster shooters in smoked salmon vodka (and we can tell you that it is really smoky).

The industrial space (what else?) comes complete with exposed light bulbs, lots of dark steel, raw wood and exposed concrete. While the first floor houses the “rah rah pub atmosphere, the second floor is a little more intimate with the exclusive racks of wine and both communal and individual dining tables” says Yeo.

With the official launch slated for some time at the end of June, look forward to brews tinged with local flavors. Yeo clues us into a delicious ale that’s being infused with manuka honey. Now that, we can’t wait for.

Curious? Drop by during its soft launch, open to all “daring guinea pigs” as Yeo put it, this Thursday afternoon.
