New restaurants TungLok XiHe and Omakase Burger now open at The Grandstand

We’ve already told you about the Bukit Timah revival that’s been taking place, check out our suggestions on where to eat here. Also worth checking out in the area is The Grandstand, formerly Turf City.

One of the latest arrivals here is TungLok XiHea tie-up between the local restaurant group Tung Lok and well-known Beijing duck restaurant Xihe. Other than the specialty peking duck ($88)—which is served with unusual condiments like blueberry sauce and lemon pop rocks—other items available are hot and sour soup with chrysanthemum tofu ($7) and winged bean salad ($8).

There’s also newbie Omakase Burger, a casual self-serve joint set up by an ex-banker. This 80-seater specializes in (no surprises here) burgers such as Ultimate Cheeseburger ($13.90), with bacon, grilled onions and mushrooms. Aside from standard fries (from $3.90), they also offer sweet potato fries (from $4.90), truffle fries (from $6.90), cheese fries (from $5.90) and onion rings ($4.90)

Hot on their heels is MAD (#01-20/22), which stands for Modern Asian Diner, a collaborative effort between Dick Lee, the TungLok Group, Bar Stories, Top Wines and Bakerzin that’s currently slated to open in early December. The establishment won’t just be serving up both Asian and European fare in tapas-sized portions and cocktails galore; it’ll also house a bread retail spot, a wine cellar, and a boutique selling MAD merchandise.
