New restaurant Kin by Damian D’Silva to open at Straits Clan

Fans of Chef Damian D’Silva’s comforting heritage cuisine will soon have a place to head to now that the famed MasterChef Singapore judge has left Folklore.

The Lo & Behold Group is teaming up with him to open Kin come Nov 4 (reservations open Oct 14), to be located at the lobby level of members-only club Straits Clan. It’ll be accessible by the public (though only in limited amounts, so reservations are recommended), unlike Clan Cafe that’s more walk-in friendly.

Kin offers heritage cuisine for a modern audience. Expect traditional Peranakan fare done in accordance with chef’s personal memories and touches, drawing anything from Eurasian to Indian, Malay to Hakka cultures. Find ala carte dishes like Babi Masak Assam ($28), that’s rarely found outside Peranakan households, or the Gulai ($36), that’s similar to a rendang but done with Indian spices.

There’s a tok panjang style multi-course communal chef’s menu too ($48 each for lunch, $98 each for dinner), that’s apparently the best way to get the full Kin experience. Knowing the Lo & Behold folks and Chef Damian’s talent and work ethic in the kitchen, we only expect great things from this much-anticipated November opening.

Kin opens Nov 4 at Straits Clan, 31 Bukit Pasoh Rd.
