The most food-centric stretch along the Singapore River shakes it up with two new restaurants. First up is a Thai place with a fusion, casual fine dining twist. The contemporary restaurant Soi 60, helmed by Australia chef Martin Boetz is all about the sweet, sour and spicy flavors with dishes like grilled prawns with caramelized coconut on betel leaves; panaeng beef rib curry with peanuts; and coconut panna cotta with kaffir lime. Also coming to Roberston Quay is Mexican party-resto Lucha Loco, which will open its second outlet called Supa Loco (just next to Soi 60!). No word on the concept yet but we don’t doubt that it will be just as fun. The restaurant is slated to open in August or September.
Over at Clarke Quay, all-rounder Asian restaurant Coriander Leaf is closing. Although they will be sorely missed, fans of the place won’t be sad for long. Chef-owner Samia Ahad has other grand plans in store. The space will re-open with a brand new concept that features a cookery school and restaurant. In the meantime, for those missing her cooking, her catering business remains open.
