Singapore’s most expensive mooncake comes with a tea set and an actual gold plate

Mid-Autumn Festival 2019 is fast approaching, and it’s time to fork out excessive amounts of money for extravagant packaging and sometimes-decent pastry once again.

But taking the (moon)cake this year has got to be the new offering from Golden Moments. The online store that launched just two years ago in 2017 has just debuted their new Premium Mao Shan Wang Truffle Snowskin Mooncake, a box of four golden snowskin delights that costs a whopping $628.

With that price point, we’re expecting a lot. The mooncake itself sure sounds decadent, with each piece wrapped in edible 24K gold leaves. Underneath the pastry layer is then a mao shan wang durian puree, followed by a dark chocolate shell and infused truffle paste and oil. Smack in the middle of each mooncake then lies a thick layer of fresh Australian winter black truffle. Pretty amazing.

If that still doesn’t convince you of the $628 tag, maybe the actual gold plate that comes with each box will. Weighing 3g and comprising 24K 99.9% pure gold, the Golden Moments-branded plate simply screams overt extravagance.

And there’s more. A golden teapot and two golden teacups accompany each purchase—drinking tea with mooncakes is part of the tradition after all. There’s also a pair of golden forks and a golden knife, so you can consume the mooncake with class. It even comes with tissues (not golden) for your clean up convenience.

Golden Moments sell a bunch of other things too. Their Signature Snowskin Mao Shan Wang Mooncake has a more reachable price tag of $98.80 for a box of four, while their bite-sized Golden QQ balls cost $27.60 for a box of 12.

Pre-order of the Premium Mao Shan Wang Truffle Snowskin Mooncake is available online. Golden Moments will be popping up at mooncake markets all around town from Aug-Sep, including at Takashimaya Square B2 from Aug 8-Sep 13.
