You can now enjoy Sinpopo’s local offerings at their new concept store in Orchard

Nyonya kueh is a snack we Singaporeans collectively know isn’t the healthiest, but will happily spend our calories on it anyway because it’s worth it. Well it’s about to get much worse (read: better) if you’re a cake fanatic as well, because Sinpopo has just launched seven new cake flavours inspired by favourite local desserts at their very first concept store at Paragon.

From the folks behind Awfully Chocolate, the Sinpopo brand aims to emulate the spirit behind old Katong with distinct local touches in their food and decor. They’ve done it this time with their new handmade cakes in locally-inspired flavors: Ondeh Ondeh, Kueh Sarlat, Pulut Hitam (there’s a durian version too), Baked Apple Cake and even Dadar Dadar Mille Crepe cake in addition to their signature Gula Melaka cake. At $8 a slice and $62 for the whole cake, we think it’s pretty reasonable given their uniqueness and the effort that’s gone into them.

If you’ve been to their Joo Chiat outlet, you’d be familiar with their interesting adaptations of local Peranakan food. Think pandan souffles, kopi macchiatos and frisee salads with crispy muah chee. This new outlet at Paragon however, offers their cakes and salted egg yolk cookies as a takeaway option only, unlike the sit-down style cafe at their katong counterpart. But given how sinful these desserts are, perhaps we’re better off burning some marginal calories at the standing bar anyway.

As part of their National Day celebrations, you can also try your hand at Sinpopo’s sure-win Gachapon Machine when you spend $53—prizes include 53 complimentary slices of cake, dine-in vouchers and complimentary online delivery. And if not for anything, you can’t deny the satisfaction of indulging in this nostalgic childhood activity.

Sinpopo is located at #B1-33 Paragon, 290 Orchard Road. More information and online store here
