Suntec City is your next stop for all things okonomiyaki

Lucky for Singapore, the Japanese street food wave isn’t going anywhere soon. A dedicated okonomiyaki restaurant has opened in Suntec City’s Japanese food enclave Eat At Seven, bringing the savory Japanese pancake to hungry fans at affordable prices. Tsuruhashi Fugetsu is Osaka’s largest okonomiyaki restaurant, with over 80 outlets worldwide. The Suntec City outlet marks the first one in Singapore.

If you’ve never tried the street food classic before, Fugetsu is a good place to start. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, okonomiyaki is made from wheat flour dissolved in water and mixed with Japanese yams and cabbage, then grilled with thin slices of meat. At Fugetsu, the pancakes are made with fresh cabbage, yakisoba (fried egg noodles), and various battered meat and seafood—before being grilled, slathered in sauces, and topped with bonito flakes. Your final pancake comes served to you on individual teppanyaki plates, so it stays fresh and hot throughout your meal.

On the menu are the classic okonomiyaki, Cheetama-Buta-Tama (cheese, egg and pork, $14.80), Tonpei-Yaki (pork omelette, $9.80), and the Omelet-Yakisoba (fried egg noodles and pork omelette, $13.80), among others.
