There’s now a Harry Potter-themed restaurant in Serangoon

Singapore is no stranger when it comes to cutesy themed cafes; there’s the DC Comics Super Heroes Cafe at Marina Bay Sands, the whimsical Gudetama Cafe that just opened last month at Suntec, and so many more. While the concepts are novel and food often described as “It’s alright”, there’s one that recently opened up with much less fanfare and at a less glamorous location, but is possibly the most exciting one of all, at least to us. It’s even caught the attention of popular sites The LAD Bible, Refinery29 and Lonely Planet.

While there’s no word on the cafe actually being Harry Potter themed, Platform 1094 (similar to, but not to be confused with Platform 9¾ in the Harry Potter series) has a lot of touches of the popular novel series. For starters, the entire restaurant looks like a better lit, smaller version of the Three Broomsticks pub, woodworks, overhead lighting, tabletop candles and all. The leather chairs also have stag motifs of them (which you’ll no doubt recall is Harry’s Patronus charm)

But what really takes the cake here is their signature drink, which the Internet is going crazy over. Named the Goblet of Fire, the cocktail is a concoction of blue Curacao liqueur and lime juice. When you order it, a staff will come over with a small measure of Bacardi 151, torch it and pour it into the drink. While the flame is still burning, cinnamon powder is sprinkled on top to give that same effect you see in the films. It sounds really gimmicky, but if you’re a huge Harry Potter fan, then it’s a big deal.

Food-wise, it’s a little less magical. With dishes like pesto mayo pork ribs, schnitzel sous-vide duck breast and crabmeat aglio e olio, you’ll be full before you can cast your next spell. They’re currently full for January, but you can try your luck and make your reservations by calling or emailing them. Also, they’ve provided hats and wands if you’re too lazy to bring your own.

We’re curious about what the copyright situation is. We’ve reached out for a comment, and will update when we have a response.

Platform 1094 is located at 1094 Serangoon Rd and opens on Tuesdays-Fridays from 11am to 10pm and on weekends from 10am to 10pm.

UPDATE: They’ve mentioned they they “are not a Harry Potter themed restaurant but a wizard theme,” but, we don’t know… it looks pretty similar!
