Who doesn’t love cafes? And when those cafes serve old-timey pastries from Hong Kong, well, we have a food trend in the making. The first of two HK bakeries arriving on our shores is Mr Rich Bakery, specializing in cookies: matcha latte, choco-marshmallow, brewed coffee, coffee almond, and of course, butter cookies. The second is Tai Cheong Bakery, which is famous for its egg tarts.
While there’s no word on the price for Tai Cheong’s egg tarts, Mr Rich will carry tins containing five different types of cookies ($24.90) or tins with two different types for $14.90. They may do a soft launch at Asia Food Mart’s premises at Triple One Somerset, and its flagship will open in 2016’s second quarter.
As for Tai Cheong, the bakery will also sell pineapple buns, egg rolls, pastries and cha chan teng dishes. They have yet to state their upcoming location and opening date, so keep your eyes peeled for updates.
In the meantime, tide yourself over at the other HK import, Coffee Academics.
