The meat takeover of Singapore

Raw food, quinoa and kale salads are on the backburner these days. Meat is the dining scene’s latest darling. Consider the evidence.

Good Ol Burgers

Just yesterday, Neil Road cafe The Lokal had a pop-up that was all about juicy American-style burgers and beer. Local favorite gourmet burger restaurant De Burg, is finally back up-and-running in Kallang’s CT Hub with huge Aussie beef patties and lots of sauce and newish Circular Road burger restaurant Dojo specializes in all sorts of pork patties and burgers.

Smoked and Roasted

Then there’s revamped players like Carvers & Co, an East Coast hangout famous for its roasted meats in a communal dining setting, and brand new ones like Unlisted Collection restaurant Meat Smith that focuses on American-style smoked meats like briskets and pork belly. This new joint is every bit hip with a diner-like feel and two in-house smokers under the care of American chef Andrew Baldus, with joint efforts from the guys behind Burnt Ends.

Meaty Scoop

Plus, we’ve got word that the guys who opened London restaurant and bar Meatliquor has been seen dining at all the cool and dive-y restaurants around town, with plans for a spin-off here. Known for its no-nonsense and uninhibited atmosphere, the place is popular with Londoners and has a cult following for those who like to travel for food. It’s a meat-centric joint with tons of messy but satisfying food like mac and cheese, huge burgers and stiff cocktails.
