Upcoming wine events this June

There’s a huge range of vino-related appointments on this month: Austrian wines classes, Spanish wine appreciation events, sessions that pair bottles with Russian or Thai food and even one to support Pink Dot.

The month starts with a bang with The Local Nose Pink Party (June 1). A nod to Pink Dot (June 29) this event features rose wines from all over the world coupled with casual bites from gallery-cafe Artistry.

On the same day, there’s also Austria’s Best – A Ying Selection, where you can sample 12 fine wines from Austria selected by Tabena’s owner Ying Hsien Tan.

For some Spanish flavor, check out the Miguel Torres Wine Dinner on June 4 at db Bistro Moderne. It’s a four-course menu paired with wine from Spanish winery Bodegas Torres. Savour grilled quail and foie gras duo paired with Cordillera Carignan 2008, and passion fruit souffle paired with Vendimia Tardia Riesling 2008 for dessert.

Then, hit up the Wines of Argentina Asia Tour 2013 on June 6 at Traders Hotel. It includes an Argentinean wine master class and the chance to sample flights of everything from Malbec to lesser known varieties such as Torrontés and Bonarda.

There’s some spicier fare to be had at the Thai Me Up Wine Pairing session (June 6-7) at Phad Thai. Bottles with be paired with scrumptious dishes like tom yam soup with prawn, and Thai fish cakes with chilli sauce.

If that’s not your bag, try the Malat Winemaker Dinner (June 13) at Buyan Russian Haute Cuisine & Caviar Bar. It’s a hearty five-course Russian dinner paired with five Malat wines.

Later, there’s also the Austria BBQ on June 16 at Mövenpick Heritage Hotel Sentosa. You get to take home a bottle of Malat Grüner Veltliner Göttweiger Berg after enjoying a delicious spread of Austrian barbecue favorites.

But the biggest wine event of June has to be the Austrian Wine Experience—on through June 16—featuring Austrian wines at 19 of Singapore’s top wine and dine establishments. Across the venues, expect complimentary tasting flights, degustation menus, special winemaker dinners, a la carte pairings as well as educational seminars by local wine critic and expert Tan Ying Hsien.
