Wonton noodles are getting trendy

With at least two wonton noodle shops opening within weeks of each other, the homey and hearty noodle dish is back on trend. Here’s where to get your dose in Singapore.

Wanton Seng’s Noodle Bar

This cool new noodle bar located in the hip Amoy Street has a modern approach to the traditional dish. While it’s based on the famed Seng’s Wanton Noodles, which was founded in Dunman in 1968, chefs Brandon Teo of Pluck and Benson Ng have reinvented the dish. Now you can customize your sides with toppings like roasted pork belly, slow-braised trotters, Batalong egg with spicy mayo and the classic BBQ char siew.

Mak’s Noodles

Then there’s the super traditional wonton noodles. Set to open by July in The Centrepoint, this noodle chain hails from Hong Kong and, yes, it is the famed Mak’s Noodles from Central. Here, wanton noodles are very traditional and follow set rules for maximum flavor. Noodles are served in tiny bowls as it prevents the dish from getting too soggy, while the dumplings are little morsels packed with ultra chunky prawn.
