Western eatery Shoebox Canteen is now open at North Canal Road (opposite Hong Lim Park) at a space shared with bespoke cocktail bar Bitters & Love.
The new restaurant seats just 30 persons and has a modern canteen feel, with long wood communal tables, steel finishes and double glass mirrors. The menu offers higher-end versions of fast food classics such as the homemade beef burger ($19) and the pan-seared chicken burger ($16).
There are also more sophisticated plates like capellini with prawn and pan-seared scallop ($15) and grilled salmon with garlic mash and ratatouille ($15). For dessert, there’s a freshly baked orange walnut cake ($5). They aim to deliver the food to table in five minutes or under and the menu is set to change every three weeks.
