With all this craft beer proliferating in the city, it’s good to have an extra-large (ie 1.89 liter) option for takeaway. Here are five places that do them regularly.
Amber Nectar
The Robertson Quay beer bar has a few German beers on tap. They’ve now got a special growler tap that can fill a 1.89L bottle in a jiffy. It specializes in German beers and includes Hofbrau’s original and dunkel beers, as well as a Munchner Weisse hefeweizen. The bar is also debuting a new smoked beer from Bamberg, Germany. Prices range between $36 to $44, but are cheaper when you head back for refills.
Brewerkz
Our dependable local brewery has a nifty insulated growler that keeps your beer cooler for longer in our hot weather. It’s a little hard to come by (which means it has a waiting list), but you can fill it with any Brewerkz beer on tap for as low as $12.
Joo
The Korean bar and bistro doesn’t only serve makgeolli. It’s now got a special beer growler tap that pushes out Hofbrau’s two brews, the original and dunkel, starting at $36 per growler and $31 for refills.
Nickeldime Drafthouse
The cool beer bistro not only has 15 rotating taps on draft, but you can fill up a two-liter bottle with whatever brew you fancy. Taps include beers from Anderson Valley brewery, Coedo Brewery and Lost Coast Brewery. Bottles start at $29.90, depending on the beer.
99 Bottles
The bottle shop has a rather complete selection of bottled beers. While the growlers are harder to come by, they do stock a range of 1.8L bottles from breweries like Rogue and BrewDog.
