Club Street’s Zui Hong Lou has reopened as a new mod-Asian bites diner

Fancy having a Kopi G&T for lunch instead of your usual kopi bing pick-me-up? The folks behind some of the funkiest F&B brands—think Gem Bar, Nutmeg & Clove and Wanton—are back with another hit space. Zui Hong Lou (or Drunken Red House) has been around for a while, but is The Establishment’s newest project, revamped with a new look and contemporary Asian eats on 90 Club Street.

It took a while to get here—Zui Hong Lou was first conceptualized as a Chinese-kitsch dim sum spot in 2013, and sister bar to Gem Bar at Ann Siang Hill. The place then moved to its current spot on Club Street, taking over open-concept kitchen and bar :pluck, now permanently closed. Here it will stay, refreshed with a new coat of paint (literally) thanks to local graffiti artist Rajesh Kumar.

On the menu are quick and easy plates the CBD crowd will surely appreciate. Tuck into rice bowls and Chinese steamed buns stuffed with braised pork belly, deep fried shrimp paste chicken, beef rendang and more ($9 for a pair), or go ham on the small plates to share with your colleagues—there’s Ma Po Tofu with Sichuan Ma Po Glaze ($7), Double Deep Fried Chong Qing Chicken Wings with House Ma La Spices ($10), and Grilled Kung Pao Baby Octopus ($8). Reliable carb favorites like Yang Zhou Fried Rice ($5) are available too.

If you’re there for lunch, don’t miss out on the locally flavored cocktails on offer—even if it seems against your better judgment. Breakfast Club ($16) is a dessert-like concoction of Mount Gay eclipse, Kaya Oat Milk, evaporated milk, egg yolk and Averna-infused Coffee for that welcome shot of caffeine; while the Kopi Gin Tonic ($15) comes with Bankes Gin, Espresso cold brew and tonic—for, you know, one of those days. What can we say? We love a place confident enough to include the word “drunk” in its name.

Zui Hong Lou is located at 90 Club Street, and is open from 12pm-1am (Mon to Fri) and 6pm-1am (Sat). More information here.
