Admiral Bar & Grill

Located near Sembawang MRT station and sitting on Admiral Hill, Admiral Bar & Grill is the perfect hangout for those who dislike crowded restaurants. It’s definitely quiet and off the beaten track, with a comfy, casual vibe, a nice alfresco area and much greenery. Admiral has both indoor and outdoor seating; but the latter is more popular, as there are only small drink tables, a karaoke system and a pool table indoors. Be warned: Because the grill is not bar from the outdoor dining area, your clothes will probably smell. And while the wooden tables are too low, the old school table gaslights are cute. The service was also warm and friendly. Following the staff’s recommendations, we ordered the rack of baby ribs with spiced fries ($14.90), a mixed grill of chicken, beef and prawns and baked potato ($19.90) and the seafood combo with prawn, squid and salmon steak ($24.90). The ribs were good, but the portion could have been bigger. However, the beef steak in the mixed grill was too tough; and when a friendly server dropped by to ask how everything was going, we told him that. He then quickly offered another steak; a move which impressed us (the new beef steak turned out great). We loved the squid in the seafood combo, which was spicy enough, juicy and succulent; but we wished there was more. The salmon steak fared OK, and the prawns could be fresher. We liked our Snowball mocktail ($8.65), but the ice‑cream for dessert was only average. Overall, Admiral’s relaxing ambiance and warm service makes it special, but its food is a bit mediocre.
