If you’re craving Japanese fare and in need for a fuss-free night out at Robertson Quay, the bold and brazen Amazing Hokkaido is the place to be. It’s a colourful, inviting and spacious izakaya, unlike the dim and hidden ones we’re more used to in the area.
Here, as the name suggests, find a menu dominated by fresh eats from Hokkaido. Get a spread to go with your drinks. The Muroran Yakitori ($3.90), a grilled skewer of pork and onions served with mustard, and the Melty 7 Kinds of Tsukune ($28.90), a platter of large meatball sticks served with a variety of sauces, are your easy go-tos. Just go easy on the wasabi.
Be sure to get the Hokkaido Wagyu Steak ($23.90) and the Bursting Salmon Roe Rice Bowl ($39) too. The former is set ablaze tableside for a fiery performance that will liven up any conversation, while the latter has servers chanting to taiko drum beats as they load overflowing amounts of ikura atop your rice bowl. Be prepared for heads to turn and phones to snap away when you order any of these dishes.
