What keeps people coming back to Bernie’s is the restaurant’s beach bar setting that’s a change from urban Singapore. BFD is well-known for its cold beers and margaritas, and its American chow of burgers, sandwiches and pastas. The food’s not exceptional though—our stuffed jalapenos, burgers (bacon cheese; chile cheese) and fish and chips were good but not wow. However the service is pretty tip-top, with our cheerful and polite servers dealing with our requests without saying “cannot” or “don’t know.” For an early dinner, the music from the live band was too loud, but later in the night it would have been more apt. Come here to chill and take a break from the city.
