From the outside it’s hard to miss the new red, white and blue pagoda that denotes the change in tenant at what used to be the home of Mozzaic. Sitting pretty at the start of Club Street, The Club Street Brasserie makes for a much more well-defined restaurant than its predecessor. Heading down the stairs, there’s a really lovely glass-roofed bar where one can enjoy pre-dining drinks (including some pretty decent coffee). The restaurant, which runs parallel, has quite a different feel—it’s intimate and sleek with a more formal atmosphere than the restaurant’s name, façade, or the friendliness of its staff would suggest. The place boasts the perfect ambience for entertaining, whether it be for a business lunch or a quiet lunch or dinner, judging from the clientele that were there the day we visited. The menu is an array of French brasserie classics from soups to meaty main courses, a few pastas thrown in, and, of course, desserts. We stuck to the two-course set lunch menu and found everything pleasant. The bread was fresh, our mushroom soup was thick with plenty of mushroom bits, our butter fish was tender with a light tomato-based sauce and steak was a decent size with a very peppery sauce. We’ll keep an eye on this one—if it continues to fare well then we hope it will be a stayer.
