Located in a conservation shop house just off Neil Road—on a street already studded with beloved cocktail bars—is an unparalleled experience and a journey back in time. Daiki Kanetaka’s Ginza-style bar is probably one of Singapore’s most expensive, and for good reason: not only are the shelves stocked with the world’s finest Armagnac, Calvados, Sherry and Scotch, it looks straight out of a period piece, the result of the owner-bartender’s obsession with British and European aesthetics concurrent with the Meiji era. The hushed, moody yet opulent space is packed with antique Dutch cabinets, artisanal Japanese lampshades and fabrics and other painstaking touches, creating an atmosphere that’s less for convivial gabbing and more for brooding seriously over your excellent drink.
