It was surprising to find this place so empty at Sunday lunchtime. Why? Because the food is really good and worth your dollar. The waitress recommended the jigar thanda ($5.50), a drink of cold milk, nuts, sago pearls and basil seeds. It tasted a bit like chendol and would have been appreciated better after the meal rather than before. The soup of the day was the spinach soup ($4). It was light, frothy and very soothing on the stomach. The fish briyani ($10.90) was average. The pepper mutton chops ($9.50) was much better than the fish and the meat was chewy and flavorful without the gamey aftertaste. Don’t leave without trying the wholewheat chapattis ($3). These two pieces of soft, mouth-watering unleavened bread took a longer time to get to our tables than the rest of the dishes because it was freshly made. If you want a culinary adventure that won’t bust your budget, Devagi’s is it.
