Folk Food

Sick of substandard salads, sandwiches and wraps? Folk Food (run by Ryan Hong of TV’s Chef for Hire fame) is good to try if you want quality bistro quality wraps and salads that won’t burn a hole in your pocket. The range here is small (but adequate) enough so that you don’t run into a headache on what to order: Choose from four types of salads, four hot mains, four types of pide “spits” (pita bread stuffed with pork, chicken or grilled vegetables) and a soup of the day. We especially love the mac and cheese that comes with delicious truffle bits, and the five spice chicken or pork pide “spit”, a steal as it comes with a chockfull of char‑boiled chicken thigh or pork shoulder meat, tomato relish, honey citrus mayo and grilled zucchini, bell pepper and eggplant—utterly delicious. The minimal décor here is also a stark contrast to the building’s grotty interior—making Folk Food a stand out in the mediocre‑looking Iluma.
