Gills N Shells

Jalan Besar’s new Hotel Boss has a decent selection of food establishments located within the building, and one of the highlights is Gills N Shells, a no-frills seafood bistro which eschews fancy plates for home-style takes on Western dishes.

The interiors are cozy, simple but modern, with paper marche lanterns and inconspicious wooden furniture. Food-wise, dishes like fresh oysters ($22.90 for six, $39.90 for 12), grilled barramundi with pilaf rice ($22.90) and baked oysters with bacon and cheese ($25.90 for six) should please seafood lovers. There are pastas, burgers and a tapas-style plates like baby octopus and crispy calamari to choose from—order these with Old and New World wines and beers on tap.
