Hog’s Breath Cafe

This second outlet of Hog’s Breath Cafe adds an Australian grill house to the Holland Village scene—the interior is an eclectic mix of rustic wooden furnishings, a random assortment of paraphernalia on the walls, and large roomy booths. A television over the bar had those of us in the restaurant enthralled with the replays of the latest soccer match. (Note: a potentially good World Cup viewing spot.) As we checked through the menu, we were advised that the premium Australian prime rib eye is the house special, and happily put in our order while sucking down our refillable soft drinks. The avocado rib eye was cooked exactly as we’d requested, with a healthy serving of curly fries and steamed veggies on the side. We were equally pleased with our cheeseburger, composed of finely ground meat and not too much fat. Our server was attentive, and very eager to please (he asked us three times how our meal was)—it’s a friendly place (the manager came out to chat at the tables while we were there) and a great choice when you have a hankering for a decent steak or burger.
