Indocafe - The White House
Peranakan food gets an upgrade with hearty dishes to share in an apt colonial setting.
Peranakan restaurants in Singapore tend to be cozy and set in shop houses. Not this one. This longstanding favorite is situated in a massive black and white house with big compound offering alfresco seating to boot. Setting aside, they serve up authentic Nyonya cuisine with punchy flavors that don’t skimp on the spice blends: get the ayam buah keluak, five-spice ngoh hiang and babi pongteh.
As far as Peranakan restaurants go, you'll be hard-pressed to find a place as classy as this one housed in a heritage black-and-white building with historical relics near Orchard Road. Setting aside, they serve up authentic nyonya cuisine with punchy flavors that don't skimp on the spice blends. There are classics like ayam buah keluak, five-spice ngoh hiang and ikan masak merah, a pan-roasted cod fillet in red chilli sauce.
