It has been quite a while since we visted Jumbo, so we thought it was high time for a re-review. We found the restaurant relatively uncrowded one weekday evening. Although we chose to sit indoors, the river outside, along with the setting sun, made for a lovely ambiance. The restaurant was done up in soothing pastel shades and looked well-maintained.
We ordered donuts with squid paste and crispy baby squid to start off our meal. The donuts were nice and crispy, filled with ample squid paste and the baby squids were delicious—crunchy, slighty spicy and great with plain rice. The highlight of our meal though, was the prawns with cereal. The prawns were fresh and the dish was buttery and fragrant—with crunchy cereal bits fried to perfection. It’s a messy dish to eat, but we still enjoyed ourselves.
Efficient wait staff also kept refilling our cups with warm Chinese tea so we were always well-served and well-fed. All in all, a pleasant dining experience by the riverside.
