SINGAPORE RESTAURANT

Kookaburra Restaurant & Gastrobar

At Kookaburra, you can not only find dishes like crispy soft shell crab with green papaya-fennel slaw ($16) and duck leg and goose rillettes ($18), but also char-grilled rump steak and baked bone marrow topped with a dollop of escargot Café de Paris butter ($30), care of chef Roland Graham. They've also got an all-day breakfast menu sporting items such as pancakes with caramelized apples, pork belly and rhubarb cinnamon ice cream ($22) and The Kookaburra ($22), ideal for late risers.

The buzz: The five-week-old sister establishment of all-day breakfast joint Late Plate is the latest arrival at Albert Court.

The vibe: Kookaburra Restaurant & Gastrobar is casual and minimal (you can get away with wearing flip-flops). The combo of white brick walls and black furniture indoors border on industrial chic. Grab a table outside overlooking the courtyard if the weather’s nice.

The food: Pretty eclectic, but in a good way. Care of executive chef Roland Graham who hails from Down Under, you’ll spot Oz-inspired dishes such as BBQ kangaroo loin skewers ($16), alongside duck and goose rillettes ($18) and soft shell crab with green papaya-fennel slaw ($16). Don’t pass on breakfast items including pancakes with rhubarb-cinnamon ice cream ($22).

The drinks: Boozy options include cocktails like The Monster Mojito, flavored with watermelon, mixed berries or mango pomelo ($18), as well as house wines from NZ’s Sileni (from $12/glass; from $58/bottle).

Why you’ll be back: It’s a great choice when you’re looking for an all-day breakfast spot that also does substantial mains and pleasant cocktails.

Eat this: Pancakes. It's one of I-S Magazine's 50 things to eat in Singapore before you die (2012).
