Nogawa Japanese Restaurant

We’d heard rave reviews about this stalwart Japanese restaurant and, as expected, Nogawa lived up to its name when we were there.

Entering the small, intimate restaurant (there are only a few tables with the rest being counter seats), loud cries of “Welcome” in Japanese from the Japanese chefs and staff greeted us.

The quaint interior was furnished with little Japanese ornaments, making us feel like we were in Tokyo (due in part also to the many Japanese customers).

The menu was fabulously extensive, so we decided to start with the platter of assorted seasonal sashimi. Comprising ultra-fresh cuts of mackerel, yellowtail, scallop, squid, prawns and tuna, we devoured everything because it was just so good.

The grilled Hokkaido pregnant fish totally blew us away—light, fragrant, crispy and wonderfully flavored, it was definitely the best shishamo we’d ever had.

The Kobe beef on hot plate was also amazing. The discreet, polite wait staff had grilled the meat to perfection for us, and it arrived oozing with distinct strips of fat, and was melt-in-the-mouth delicious.

Just when we thought things could not get any better, the plum wine jelly dessert was an awesome surprise, as the unassuming orange cubes actually packed a lovely punch with the plum wine.

Nogawa is expensive, but it’s worth every dollar spent here.
