Pool Grill

We were impressed by the setting of this hotel poolside restaurant. Two covered areas right alongside the sleek modern pool surrounded by greenery create a lovely alfresco setting where patrons can sit outside without being held hostage to the heat. The serene and calm setting belies this restaurant’s location right in the heart of Orchard Road, and its success was reflected in its patronage—despite being a mid-week lunchtime, the restaurant was full (a reliable signal that reservations are recommended). Former Hunter Valley Chef Harry Callinan’s menu is a mix of sandwiches, pizzas and hot menu items all served by friendly and professional waiters who are extremely polite and eager to help. The food was not quite as notable as the scenery, but it was satisfying enough. The starter of chicken quesadillas was warm and tasty, even if the chicken was a little dry. Better successes were the salmon sashimi salad, where the fish came plentiful and in thick slices and the Marriott burger, which was cooked exactly as we’d requested. While the food isn’t fine dining, Pool Grill’s lovely setting addresses the much-awaited need for a good alfresco restaurant in the Orchard area.

When the weather is good, eating outside can be a truly enjoyable dining experience. These joints with charming open air areas are just the place to dine on breezy evenings.
