Porta-Porta Italian Restaurant

Like its parent restaurant in Changi, Porta Porta on Stanley Street is a friendly family-run establishment serving yummy homestyle Italian cooking. Dad does the cooking here, while daughter and son-in-law run the restaurant.

It’s very cozy and relaxed, with lots of regulars from the offices nearby and a menu that stays pretty much the same so you always know what to expect.

As with other restaurants in the CBD, weekday lunch is peak. Set lunch meals are served as they would be in Italy—with an appetizer, pasta, a main and dessert. Porta’s sets are divided into seafood, meat and vegetarian, and all are really good.

We recommend the seafood for its black crab ravioli—a house specialty—and the meat for its delicious lasagna, although the veggie set is good too, and comes with an excellent eggplant parmesan. The dessert, homemade tiramisu, is the real deal, don’t miss it.

The service is always charming, accommodating, and really easy going. No fussy rules here! If you have the time, linger for an espresso or two, or three; these guys will probably join you.

Also at Changi Garden, 971 Upper Changi Rd. North, 6545-3108.
