Scrumptious Café

This little “café and more” in the slightly run-down Turf City. If you’re not a kid-lover, think twice before dropping by on weekends, because we found loads of children here (they have storytelling sessions) and the noise level is high. Parents will find this place a godsend (there’s a kiddie play area and a nail spa). Weekdays are probably much quieter. But the chow here is really pretty good. The cheddar waffle fries looked like heaven and tasted like it—crispy on the outside and fluffy inside, and maddeningly addictive. The Oxford bangers and mash delighted us with its juicy, flavorful, crunchy sausages, and not-too-milky-or-creamy mash. The magharita pizza was delicious—tomatoes and cheese served on a crispy, piping hot crust. Only the chocolate fondant and fairy cake were slight letdowns—the fondant was unusually tiny for the price and the latter, too dry. The service was OK—the staff were as busy as bees but sincere. With no GST and service charge, it’s good enough for us. We like this place—it just gets a little crazy on weekends. But for the simple, unpretentious and robust chow, this place is well-worth a visit.
