Sopra Cucina & Bar
Authentic Sardinian grub in a plush setting complete with a breezy semi-alfresco area.
Tucked away at the back of five-star hotel Pan Pacific Orchard (right by Orchard Towers), this Sardinian restaurant more than makes up for its unusual location with its retro glam decor. The name is in big lights out front, and the interior features lots of black leather and luxe marble. The food is unique (including dishes like fregola pasta and carasu bread) and there’s also a solid list of mostly Italian wines and beers.
The buzz: Tucked away at the back of five-star hotel Pan Pacific Orchard right by Orchard Towers, this 230-seat blockbuster Sardinian restaurant more than makes up for its unusual location with its retro glam decor.
The vibe: Pretty glitzy. You can tell they mean business. The restaurant’s name is in big lights out front, and the interior is dominated by plushy black leather banquette seats, luxe marble finishings and a classy bar. It’s the kind of joint old school movers and shakers (the joint attracts a large business crowd) will appreciate.
The food: Sardinian specialities including hearty peasant-style zuppa gallurese ($26), bread soup with lamb stock and pecorino, as well as pasta recipes such as malloreddus alla campidanese ($26), a mix of gnocchi-like dumplings, pork and a rosemary sauce. For a good overview of what the cuisine has to offer, there’s a four-course degustation menu ($98).
The drinks: A list of mostly Italian labels, spanning affordable housepour vinos (from $9.50/glass, $86/caraffe) to premium bottles like brunello di montalcino la casa DOCG caparzo. Plus, beers from Italian microbrewery Beer 32—think dark coffee-scented Atra ($36)—and modern cocktails such as Amaro Smash ($14), comprising smashed pineapple and amaro montenegro.
Why you’ll be back: For authentic Sardinian grub, this is the only place in town. Besides good food and a solid wine list, service is no slouch. Take business associates here for a dinner that’s adventurous, but not too “out-there.”
