Taki Kyoto Grill & Sake is Japan Food Town’s latest addition to their group of tenants serving authentic Japanese cuisine. The restaurant is relocated from its old Boat Quay premise and continues to dish out modern Kyoto cuisine at its new haunt. Like most Japanese restaurants, they make full use of seasonal ingredients from Japan. Chef Kazuyoshi Takubo helms the kitchen and has almost 10 years of experience under his belt.
Depending on how hungry you are, you can choose to have either a six-, eight-, nine- or 10-course mini-omakase meal ($29-$105), all of which are presented in bento boxes. They include dishes like yakitori grilled chicken and leeks, and Hassun, the second course in traditional Kaiseki meals with an appetizer that comes with sushi and side dishes. More filling options like grilled A4-grade black hair wagyu beef steak with hoba miso, grilled unagi mini don and maguro sushi, are also on the list. End the meal off with yuzu citron sherbet or the dessert of the day. If these course meals are too daunting for you, there’s also salmon and ikura mini don ($11) and sauteed foie gras and duck ($21). Alternatively, satisfy your meat craving with their wagyu steak set lunch for $48.
Sake pairings are also available. Most options come in bottles but a couple like Dassai Junmai Daiginjou 50 ($29) and Kokuryu Ginjyo Itstyorai ($27) are available by the glass. Bottles range from $120 for a Junmai Ginjo-shu kid sake to $353 for a Denshu Junmai Daiginjou.
