Peruvian slang for “party”, Tono located in Duo Galleria on Beach Road delivers on its promise with an honest, good time, and a party of Peruvian flavors in your mouth. Specializing in authentic Peruvian ceviche—a seafood dish made with fresh raw fish, lime, chilies and onions—Tono Cevicheria is the brainchild of Peruvian chef Daniel Chavez, who also heads the popular Ola Cocina del Mar.
Aside from ceviche, made-to-order using the freshest seafood and Leche de Tigre (Tiger’s Milk), you can also find on the menu a large variety of classic Peruvian specialties. Try traditional dishes like Lomo Saltado (stir-fried beef with garnishing and crispy potatoes, $40) and Arroz con Mariscos (seafood rice with crabmeat, $34); or taste the best of the Caribbean in Tiraditos (sashimi flavoured with Tiger’s Milk and various seasonings, $22-$24), a dish commonly attributed to Japanese immigrants for their influence on Peruvian cooking. For dessert, Peruvian rice pudding and butter cookies round up the menu, and the South American cocktail Pisco Sour provides your requisite shot of alcohol.
Whatever you choose, expect only the most authentic flavors; Tono’s chefs are trained in Lima, Peru—and wouldn’t be caught dead using anything other than Peruvian ingredients and sustainable seafood to recapture the country’s tasty traditions.
