Viva Mexico | Review

Part of the cluster of restaurants in the revamped Cuppage Terrace, this cheerful Mexican restaurant is done up in vivid blue hues, shocking reds and bright yellows; and comes complete with terracotta floors and cacti.

We opted to sit inside (it’s quieter and comfier) and kicked off with a complimentary serving of nachos, which was accompanied by a delicious spicy green tomato dip and salsa. Our mango margarita made us coo with delight, as it was so refreshing it tasted more like a smoothie than an alcoholic drink.

We chose the chili with crab and tortilla soup for our starters; while the former was ordinary, the latter was a warm, hearty dish that we thoroughly enjoyed. The chicken fajita we ordered for one of our mains was nothing to rave about though—the accompanying tacos and guacamole were rather bland.

The portion size of our other main, the Viva sampler, that comprised beef ribs, serviche, tamale and chili with crab appetizers, was woefully inadequate considering its price. The only bright spot in that dish was the excellent serviche.

For dessert we recommend the vanilla flan, a sweet, filling custard with caramel sauce. While the service was decent, Viva Mexico is slightly overpriced for some pretty average Mexican food.
