Casio’s G-Shock flagship store has opened in Ion Orchard, just in time to celebrate the 40th anniversary of G-Shock, the iconic brand of watches known for its tough and rugged timekeeping. The store, along with other selected branches, will showcase centrepieces created by local artists and carry a wider line-up of watches and limited-edition models.
Besides the unmissable “G-Shock” signage, the store features a large sculpture by Singaporean artist Jahan Loh – a metal half-body bust that evokes a futuristic cyborg but fronted by a face of Casio’s iconic watch and its rounded rectangular bezel. It’s a statement-making artwork in support of the Singapore arts culture scene.
But what about the watches? Fans will not be disappointed. The G-Shock 40th Anniversary Recrystallized Series was unveiled, a collection of three limited-edition models created using newly developed stainless-steel recrystallisation and deep hardening technology. It’s an update on the first-generation DW-5000 and its full-metal counterpart GMW-B5000 that was originally created in 1983.
For the launch, G-Shock also introduced its latest lineup of the G-Squad sports line, designed for everyday wear. The DW-H5600 series come complete with features and functions to support physical workouts, including an optical sensor for heart rate measurements and an accelerator sensor that keeps track of step count. The special-edition DW-H5600EX model has an interchangeable bezel and band printed with a section of the design drawings of the DW-5000C, the first G-Shock.
