Embark on a journey into the Mobile Suit Gundam universe with Japanese eyewear brand Owndays.
Following the success of Owndays’ previous collaboration with the iconic Mobile Suit Gundam anime series, the two brands have once again joined forces to unveil a new collection focusing on one of the universe’s key nations – the Principality of Zeon. Zeon was the antagonist in the original anime where it invaded Earth with large humanoid robot weapons called mobile suits.
The limited-edition Principality of Zeon x Owndays Collection launches officially on May 17, with exclusive online pre-order starting on May 13. The collection captures the essence of the series through four eyewear pieces and a special eyewear case.
The Zeon Exclusive Spectacles come in two colours ($198). The red option is presented in Char Aznable’s distinctive colour palette (Char is one of the iconic villains in the series) with a gradient reminiscent of a red comet, while the khaki option adopts a hardcore military-style colourway as a reference to the soldiers of the Principality of Zeon Armed Forces.
Both feature gold metal accents and engraved motifs inspired by the lapel pins of the Armed Forces, and come with a black faux-leather spectacle case and cloth adorned with the emblem of the Principality of Zeon.
Then it’s time to live out your fantasy as a mobile suit pilot. The Zeon Exclusive Sunglasses ($78) are made of lightweight stainless steel with flexible rubber temple tips, and feature several elements reminiscent of the Zaku (a line of manned robots which played a crucial role in the longstanding conflict against the Earth Federation).
They come in two colours – C1 in red, a colour based on the custom Zaku piloted by Char Aznable, and C2 in khaki which draws reference from the Mass Production Type Zaku.
If that’s not enough, fans can collect all four and house them in a limited-edition Zaku Head Case ($498), an eyewear case modelled after Char’s custom MS-06S Zaku II. Measuring 45cm in length, the Zaku Head Case comes in the largest-ever 1:7 scale, with only 180 units available in Singapore. It also has a detachable blade antenna (a symbol of the commander rank) and a monoeye that lights up along with an activation sound effect.
The Principality of Zeon X Owndays collection will be officially launched in-store and online in Singapore on May 17. Only selected bundles and Zaku Head Case will be available for pre-order from May 13. The first 70 pre-orders will receive a collectible character postcard.
The Zeon exclusive spectacles and sunglasses will be available at all 33 OWNDAYS stores in Singapore, and online at www.owndays.com/sg. The Zaku Head Case will be available at selected Owndays stores (Takashimaya S.C., Marina Bay Sands, Ion Orchard, VivoCity) and online, if it is not sold out during pre-order.
