The civic district’s revamp might not be complete until much later this year, but the Capitol Singapore is (almost) ready for action. Consisting of a luxury residence, a six-star hotel (The Patina), a theater and a supermall (Capitol Piazza), there are many reasons why it’s going to be a real destination
We’re most excited about the Piazza, however, where the shopping action will be. Finnish printmaker Marimekko will open their first Singapore store there. After only being able to get a small range of their stuff at Tangs, we can’t wait to have direct access to their boldly-printed range of clothes, bags and accessories and homeware.
Local designer Max Tan has also opened his flagship there, and it’s a multi-label store that’s home to both their in-house collection as well as a curated selection of complementary brands that match their sophisticated and minimalist aesthetic. You’ll find clothing from Youyou and Swedish label Odeur and jewelry from Mandy Wu. Popular local men’s suitmaker Benjamin Barker is opening their newest (and eighth) store at the Piazza—well-known for their accessible suits and menswear (including accessories and shoes), their custom-made suits are particularly attractive for the price.
Finally, Japanese hair studio Branche Hair & Nail has already opened their first store here. A super-luxe salon, it features just three workstations (plus a VIP room, of course) and a lineup of products that are developed and manufactured in-house. It’s even got coffee brewed from beans hand-roasted by a Japanese coffee roaster, and premium Japanese fruit teas with edible leaves and dried fruit in it. Their hair services come with a 14-day guarantee—if you’re dissatisfied with what they’ve done, they’ll fix it for free within a fortnight. Their mani-pedi services are provided in a private section of the salon, and are by Caplus Nail—they’ve worked on nail designs with fashion brands like Marc by Marc Jacobs in the past.
