If you’ve ever attempted the ketogenic (or keto) diet, you’ll know it’s anything but fun. The low-carb, high-fat diet works to drastically reduce your carb intake and replace it with fat—putting your body in a metabolic state that prioritises burning fat for energy. Understandably, it’s popular as a weight loss diet; but keto also caters to those with specific dietary needs, including people with Type 2 Diabetes.

Typical foods to avoid when on keto include sugary foods, wheat-based products, fruit (excluding smaller berries) and unhealthy fats like mayonnaise. Needless to say, that rules out a lot of pastries and desserts. But it’s 2019, and no one should have to suffer a dessert-less fate because of dietary restrictions. Thankfully, a new bakery has stepped up to the plate to offer keto-friendly sweets for all.

A one-woman show, Seriously Keto is the island’s first wholly ketogenic bakery, where every single treat is safe for dieting sweet tooths to eat. Believing in breads and desserts that better your body, the online bakery offers a full range of low-carb, gluten-free, dairy-free, low-calorie and zero-sugar offerings. Replacing the key ingredients are short-chain fatty acids or friendly fats like nuts, avocados and olive oil, as well as natural plant-based sugars to reintroduce sweetness without sudden blood sugar spikes.

Their signature KetoBun ($8.90 for two) is an egg-white-only bun with just 2.9g of carbohydrates per serving—and pairs great with the bakery’s low-carb KetoSpreads: the creamy Kaya Kryptonite ($9.90), and Utter Nutter KetoSpread ($5.90), a peanut butter spread made with low-carb MCT oil and pink Himalayan sea salt for natural sweetness.

More excitingly, there are Seriously Keto’s KetoCup cupcakes in six guilt-free flavours. Choose from Viva La Velvet (red velvet), Pandan-Monium (pandan), Chocolate Deluxe, Cloud Nine Cinnamon (cinnamon), Pretty in Pink (vanilla with strawberry) and Blueberry Bliss (blueberry) at $5.90 apiece. If you’re catering for a party (or just exercising your will as a grown adult who can buy a full cake whenever they want), the bakery does full-sized KetoCakes in the same flavours from $49.90 (10cm) and $115 (20cm).
