“We’re fun, we don’t take fashion too seriously”: Interview with local co-founders of The WYLD Shop

Aussie-stocking local portal thewyldshop.com recently opened their first permanent shop in the CBD, selling weekend- and club-appropriate womenswear, accessories and faux-jewelry from Australian brands like MinkPink, Le Specs and Staple the Label. We caught up with co-founders Kara Bensley-Austin and Gursheel Dhillon after their recent fashion showcase.

What makes The WYLD Shop different from other multi-label boutiques?

Gursheel: We’re fun, we don’t take fashion too seriously and we love living “wyld” and free.

Kara: We offer quality, on trend, affordable exclusive styles from Australian Brands such as Paint it Red, Staple the Label, Maidenlove & 8 Other Reasons.

What are your thoughts on the Singaporean sense of fashion?

K: Singaporeans generally dress more conservatively, but are certainly open to trying new styles and brands once they discover new destinations to shop especially for those who love shopping online.

What are the worst fashion faux pas that you’ve seen on the streets?

K: I guess it would have to be socks worn with sandals… a great effect for the runway but really not a good look.

Any tips for the hot new trends for the next few months?

K: For Singapore shoppers it would definitely have to be vibrant floral prints in swim and resort wear—it’s a must for summer. Plus, black leather skirts mixed with stripes, maxi dresses and statement piece jewelry.

What’s next from The WYLD Shop?

G: We just had our fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Asia which went really well, so expansion is definitely on the cards, as well as bringing in new labels to offer a wider variety for customers.
