The buzz: Crossfit remains the hottest workout regime around the moment and this crossfit gym (or “box” as they like to call it) is the largest of its kind in Singapore. It also incorporates a huge outdoor workout area stacked high with hard-core fitness equipment like kettlebells and giant tires.
The vibe: Open and airy, the workout space is actually situated in a marquee surrounded by grass. Brightly-colored equipment is stacked up along one wall, with flags of the world hanging from the ceiling. The space is situated at the bend of Turf Club Road, a beautiful, verdant area of town, but also one that is deceptively difficult for taxi uncles to find.
The goods: Each new member starts with a fundamentals course to learn the basics of crossfit—like how to squat with perfect technique and properly execute a push-up. After that, classes vary in size, but range between 15-30 people, with options like Beginners, Strength and a women-only weightlifting class. All the sessions include a warm up, a skills section (where they teach you to use equipment like the barbells and kettlebells) and then the workout which includes a series of repeated exercises like squats, push-ups and sprints. Sign up online for a free trial (held on Thursdays or Saturdays) and if you like it, drop in classes are $35, a 10-session pack is $300 and 3 months unlimited is $275 per month. Stay tuned for personal training and nutritional therapy early in 2015.
Why you’ll be back: Crossfit has become hugely popular in recent years as the workout is so varied and fast-paced you completely forget about watching the clock. This place has decent space to run around in and a lot of carefully curated classes to match your specific needs.
