The buzz: The first standalone Fly Now boutique outside Bangkok by renowned Thai couturier Chamnan Phakdeesuk. Yes, couture is big, following the recent Women’s Fashion Week run where one-off evening gowns, and only evening gowns, took centerstage. The vibe: Very tai-tai (what do you expect?). Lined with rows and rows of intricately designed gowns, set against black walls, mood lighting and gold-colored clothes hangers and rails. The goods: The label’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection has already landed, with inspirations culled from the textures, colors and mood of the 14th to 16th centuries—expect velvet tapestry collages fused with digital prints of richly patterned collage on cotton silk spandex and matt sequin overlays for a contemporary silhouette. Other highlights: Made-to-measure pieces which take up to 30-40 days to make (and if you have a couple of thousand to spare). The regular pieces from the ready-to-wear Black label line retail between $120-450.Why you’ll be back: OK if you’re an average layperson, you won’t necessarily come back. But if you’re a self-confessed wannabe socialite (there’s so many of you out there these days), there’s no other boutique in town that will make you feel more at home.
