Thirsty – The Beer Shop

The buzz: It’s hard to find a sizable range of craft brews in one retail space. Along comes this three-week-old newbie at Liang Court to the rescue, thanks to passionate 28-year-old Roland Utama. The vibe: Low-key and minimal. It’s just beers galore displayed all around the store and a couple of tables and some bar stools for those who simply want/need a drink pronto. The goods: Utama claims to have the largest collection of premium beers and ciders in Singapore and with close to 350 different brews to choose from, we find it hard not to believe him. The gamut of suds are organized based on style and origin, so it’s easy to navigate, with sections for porters & stouts, Trappist/Abbey beers, Swiss/Danish lagers, British ciders and IPA/amber ales. You’ll find familiar favorites including Hitachino, Stone, Wychwood, Rochefort, Mikkeller, Anderson and local heroes Jungle Beer, as well as fresh faces here like NZ Yeastie Boys, UK’s BrewDog and Italian San Biago. Prices start at $7.90 for a more “basic” ale, and go up to $26.90 for BrewDog’s Paradox Jura, their imperial stout aged in Isle of Jura whisky barrels for nine months. Plus, they even offer free delivery for any 12 bottles purchased (or simply log on to their website to order yours online). They’ll also be kicking off tasting sessions every Saturday offering four to five different beers (100-150ml) at just $20 starting this weekend. Why you’ll be back: To get your fix of craft beer in a convenient location. Whatever it is you fancy, odds are, they probably have it.
