6 fun markets to drop some cash at in October

October has come around and while there are plenty of Oktoberfest and Halloween things to go check out, there are also many wholesome, leisurely markets where you can spend good time and money at too. We’ve rounded up six for you.

 

Urban Ventures 11 (Oct 6)

 

Urban Ventures’ wildly successful block party/street market is coming back to Temple Street. It’s their last blowout of the year, which guarantees an impressive line-up of mouthwatering nosh, drinks vendors, artisanal goodies and crafts alongside the usual outdoor yoga experience and live gigs, featuring Subsonic Eye, Fauxe, Cravism and more.

Farmers Market @ Central Singapore (Oct 7)

 

In a bid to encourage Singaporeans to enjoy healthier diets and go local with their grocery purchases, this monthly affair gathers a selection of fresh organic products from farm to stall. You don’t need a green finger to transform your diet, just the deets of this next farmers market. Expect locally-produced organic honey, vegetables, granola, dips, among other things.

The Retro Factory: Vintage Flea Market (Oct 12-14)

 

Whether you’re a vintage purveyor or a casual flea-goer, this market that runs every second weekend of the month is for you. You’ll be sure to find a horde of booths lining Katong Square, hawking all things vintage—haute couture, home decor, keepsakes, jewellery, vinyl records and more. There will also be live music with a line-up of seven DJs helming the decks.

Raise SG: FestivalForGood (Oct 20-21)

 

The Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise (or RAISE) is planning a two-day pop-up market that lets you shop while you contribute to a greater good. This market will see various products and services from social enterprises being featured, ranging from fashion to technology. As part of this socially-conscious retail experience, you can also have a chat with social entrepreneurs to see how they have centered their businesses around being socially impactful.

Actually Affordable Art Market (Oct 25-27)

 

Affordable art, an oxymoron or nah? Come Oct 21 the AAAMarket returns for its second edition at Camp Kilo Charcoal Club. An alternative platform to give some well-deserved exposure to local and regional artists, art pieces featuring paintings and handmade crafts are guaranteed to be priced at $300 and below—just one more way for us to be bougie on a budget. So whether you’re a budding collector making your first purchase or a connoisseur who knows what he’s looking for, there’s something for everyone. Apart from the collectibles, there will also be hearty roasts and chill tunes to accompany your shopping experience.

The Local People: Marina Barrage’s 10th Year Bash (Oct 26-28)

 

As part of Marina Barrage’s 10th Anniversary, an expansive carnival-ish pop-up market will be set up, featuring local and international food, quality crafts and live acts during the last weekend of October. At this market, you will also have the chance to take a cruise in the Marina Reservoir, on a specially-arranged boat tour that will set off from the Marina Barrage. In true Marina Bay fashion, a dazzling fireworks display will cap the celebrations.
