At this shopping event, update your wardrobe by swapping items with fashion icons

If you find yourself running out of clothing options, here’s a guiltless way to have your wardrobe updated instead of nipping out for a bit of retail therapy. Come Nov 23-25The Green Friday Swap by Swapaholic will be happening at Mandarin Gallery, where some of Singapore’s fashion influencers (proper ones) will be stocking their pre-loved items for you to swap with theirs.

Giving us the chance to declutter and revitalize our wardrobes at the same time (not to mention reducing our fashion waste), the event is very much in line with everything good, green and sustainable. The Green Friday Swap is a gathering of clothing, bags, accessories, shoes and more to be exchanged, and this time, the likes of Ming Bridges, Linda Hao, Jerilyn Moon, Hanli Hoefer, Ginette Chittick and Brie Benfell have kindly offered up their closet essentials. Unlike most run-of-the-mill swap events, items have to pass stringent quality checks, and need be in excellent condition before being displayed.

The icing on the cake is that several brands are also participating. Victoria’s Secret, Beyond the Vines, several boutiques at Mandarin Gallery as well as some indie stores will all be donating items for swaps at the event. Everyone can swap up to a giddying maximum of 20 items, depending on the fee tier you’re up for. Their website explains how this whole thing works, or just watch this video for a full explanation. Usual rules apply of course—no used undergaments, earrings or socks, and do BYOB (bring your own bags) to minimize waste.

While you’re here, feel free to check out the other fringe activities happening in conjunction, like a sustainable fashion show, or pamper yourself with a $15 salon blowout to complete your whole look.

The Green Friday Swap takes place Nov 23-25 at Mandarin Gallery. Register for the event here with a fee of $15 for 1-3 items and $30 for 4-20 items. More info and swap time slots here.
