Bargain hunters, Osaka and Shanghai are where you should head to this year

We’re more than halfway through the year now, and that means it’s time to start planning for our year-end vacations. But before you begin making bookings, the Skyscanner Singapore Travel Report released earlier this week has some bits of travel wisdom to share.

According to the report, the three most wallet-friendly getaways for the second half of 2017 are Osaka, Shanghai and Cairns. The average prices of flights to these places have made a whopping 65 percent, 44 percent and 28 percent plunge respectively this year compared to the same period last year. The next four destinations with the biggest price drops are Nadi, Christchurch, Adelaide and Hobart, making the Oceania region a clear standout for bargain hunters to consider traveling to.

If you’re adamant about traveling elsewhere (since price is of no issue to you), a flight to the city of Berlin is found to be the cheapest way to get into Europe, followed by Paris, Barcelona and Madrid. If you’re planning on flying to the U.S., the gateway of Los Angeles is the more affordable option when compared to New York or San Francisco.

Destinations aside, if you’re one of those who believe that Tuesdays are the best days to book flights, Skyscanner has hereby declared it a myth. It said in the report, “…there is no concrete evidence to prove that Tuesday is the cheapest day to buy tickets, Skyscanner’s data reveals that the best times to book tickets are usually 21-25 weeks in advance.” This means that making bookings between five to six months ahead is ideal price-wise.

The travel search engine also found out that Singaporeans are increasingly traveling to off-the-beaten-path destinations like Amritsar, Kathmandu and Kaohsiung, which all saw more than double the search interest this year compared to 2016.
