If you’re yearning for a weekend getaway that doesn’t break the bank, don’t forget about our neighbor Bintan. There are lots of new developments on the Indonesian island, but that doesn’t mean the oldies (but goodies) are forgotten.
Angsana Bintan is ever-popular with families, so yes, the pool gets a little out of control, but for a quick and affordable weekend away it’s still a solid option. Rooms start at $200 per night, and guests have access to the same stretch of neatly manicured, golden sand as the neighboring Banyan Tree (where villas start at $480/night).
You can also dine at Banyan Tree’s restaurants, though we do love the atmosphere at Angsana’s Friday and Saturday night BBQ (USD36/$45) just as much. They also recently overhauled their Lotus Cafe menu to offer more Southeast Asian specialties. Tons of activities on offer, as well: from jetskiing and dune-buggying to nature walks and golf.
