Cambodia’s hidden gem is actually on a private island

Head to Cambodia’s luxe private island resort Song Saa if you’re bored of run-of-the-mill beach destinations. The island, located on the Gulf of Thailand, has crystal clear waters and is only a 30-minute speedboat ride from the coastal town of Sihanoukville.

The property has 27 Cambodian fishing village-style villas, each equipped with its own private pool, WiFi and is eco-friendly (complete with thatch roofs, natural timbers and drift wood furnishings). While the Jungle villa has views of lush tropical rainforests, the Oceanwater villa gives you direct balcony access to the sea. And although it may not come cheap, the resort functions on flat rates that includes all meals (yes, including breakfast in bed or beachside dinners), drinks, speedboat transfers and the use of beach sports equipment like kayaks, sailing boats and snorkeling gear.

Plus, the property’s spa, Song Saa Sanctuaries, has treatment rooms scattered across the island, whether you want it amid greenery or to the sounds of lapping waves. While you have to pay extra for spa sessions, it specializes in Khmer treatments using local herbs, sand and iron-rich stones. The resort has five- to seven-day wellness retreats to pick from, too.

Villa rates start from US$1,117 ($1,528) per night. Head here for more info.
