If you’re thinking of going on a yoga retreat, consider heading to Sri Lanka’s five-suite Maya Villa. For starters, the charming colonial-style villas are surrounded by greenery and sit next to the rural village of Aranwella. Translation: you’ll get to hold your poses while overlooking paddy fields, frangipanis and fruit trees.
Surprisingly, it’s not too exorbitantly priced. Their new 10-day ashtanga yoga retreat starts at US$1,670 ($2,265) per person and covers accommodation for 12 nights, 10 days of yoga and three vegetarian meals a day, plus use of the villa’s facilities (like its 20-meter L-shaped swimming pool).
Set to take place from May 1-13 and May 15-27, classes will be conducted by instructor Dorion Davis and it will be taught in the traditional Mysore method. This means you’ll be getting your own set of instructions that allows you to move at your own pace, making it suitable for all levels. There’s only room for 10 participants in each retreat so you know you’ll get plenty of personalized attention.
For the less hardcore yogis, there’s also a six-night option available on May 1, 7, 15 or 21. It’ll set you back US$1,065 ($1,448). Head here for more details.
